Lucknow: For the assembly elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday released its first list of 159 candidates. SP President Akhilesh Singh Yadav is contesting from Karhal seat of Mainpuri district. At the same time, Azam Khan imprisoned in Sitapur jail has been given ticket from Rampur, while Azam's son Abdullah, who came out of jail on bail, has been given ticket by SP from Swar seat.

SP has nominated 31 Muslims and 12 Yadavs in its list. From this it appears that the eyes of the party are more on the non-Yadav OBC votes. The number of OBC candidates is 64 out of 159. Along with this, Samajwadi Party (SP) has given tickets to 32 candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes. At the same time, bets have also been placed on 8 Vaish, 7 Thakur, 9 Brahmin, 3 Sikh candidates. Akhilesh Yadav has given tickets to 3 candidates from BSP, 2-2 candidates from Congress and BJP in these candidates. Also, in this list of 159, 11 women candidates have been fielded.

The Samajwadi Party has fielded Nahid Hasan from the Kairana seat, which has been in the news for the past few days. Nahid Hasan is imprisoned in the Gangster Act. Earlier, there was talk of his sister Iqra Hassan entering the electoral fray. The BJP has attacked the SP over the nomination of Azam Khan and Nahid Hasan. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "It is the compulsion of the Samajwadi Party, it is necessary to make the goons criminals candidates. The list is new, the culprit is the same !!
