DAMASCUS: Four people, including a child are killed and 21 others wounded in a missile attack carried out by Israel late Sunday night near the Syrian city of Damascus. The Syrian news agency SANA reported that the missiles fell near Damascus and in Hams province.

"Our airstrikes confronted the missiles launched by Israeli warplanes," SANA quoted a Syrian military source as saying.  However, no information on the situation has been provided by the army yet. An Israeli army spokesman declined to comment on the reports.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the missiles targeted several Iranian-held areas near Damascus and a military airport in the city of Hams.  The Head of the Observatory, Rami Abdel Rahman, said that some people of the security forces were injured in the attack. Israel has been conducting hundreds of airstrikes in Syria since 2011.
