Bhuvneshwar: 41 bodies remain unidentified at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, following the tragic triple train collision in Odisha's Balasore district on June 2.

According to Dr. (Prof) Ashutosh Biswas, Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, there are 41 unclaimed bodies, and they are in the process of matching DNA samples to hand them over to their respective claimants. The hospital will continue the process of handing over the bodies until all claimants come forward.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the triple train accident occurred due to lapses in the "signalling-circuit-alteration," which led to wrong signals. The Commissioner of Railway Safety under the Ministry of Civil Aviation has completed the inquiry into the Balasore train accident that resulted in the loss of 295 lives.

Ashwini Vaishnaw explained that the rear-collision happened due to the lapses in the signalling-circuit-alteration carried out at the North Signal Goomty in the past, during the execution of signalling work related to the replacement of Electric Lifting Barrier for level crossing gate no. 94 at the Station. These lapses caused wrong signalling to Train No. 12841, leading it to traverse on the wrong line and collide with the Goods train (No. N/DDIP) standing there.

The tragic incident involved the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, the Howrah-bound Shalimar Express, and a goods train. 295 passengers lost their lives, 176 sustained grievous injuries, 451 suffered simple injuries, and 180 received First Aid Treatment and were discharged.
