Call them STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease), or call them PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease), the fact is, it is paving its way into our society at an alarming rate.

Diseases like chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and AIDS are the most common type of STDs according to the reports released by the CDC.

Sex-Education is being provided across the country and is spreading awareness amongst students regarding the various aspects of a protected Intercourse.

Well here are 5 most common myths prevailing in our society regarding STDs:

1. You can easily know if someone has an STD or not.

There are diseases like Herpes, in which you may develop cold sores, which disappear after a while. You might feel like it is cured, but after a break, returns its second outbreak, which may not even show clear symptoms. In Chlamydia, it is possible, that you may not even see symptoms, hence the patient might transfer the disease without even realising.

2. Oral Sex is safe.

Oral Sex is surely less risky than the Vaginal or anal intercourse, but it does not assure you of protection against an STD. Diseases like gonorrhoea, chlamydia, syphilis, herpes, Hepatitis B, and  HPV, are often transferred by an Oral Intercourse. Hence one must always use protections.

3. Condoms are completely efficient.

Condoms definitely reduce the risk of catching an STD, But there may be some part of the skin, getting in contact with the other and hence may develop diseases like genital warts, herpes, and HPV.

4. You can get STDs from Toilets.

Studies have proved that the viruses causing STDs survive only inside the host's body and won't be alive outside.

5. If you're treated against an STD, you become immune to it.

Studies say STDs can turn back to you even if you've already suffered an infection and have been treated against it too.
