New Delhi: Global death figures from the Coronavirus have crossed 5 million on Monday. In less than two years, the epidemic has not only ruined poor countries but has also wreaked havoc in prosperous countries that have a good healthcare system. The United States, the European Union, Britain and Brazil are all high-middle- or high-income countries, one-eighth of the world's population, but have almost half of all deaths.

More than 7,40,000 people have died in the US alone, which is significantly higher than in any other country. According to Johns Hopkins University, the death toll is equal to the combined population of San Francisco in Los Angeles and San Francisco. According to estimates by the Peace Research Institute Oslo, it competes with the number of people died in fighting between different countries since 1950.

Globally, the corona is now the third biggest cause of death after heart disease and stroke. Meanwhile, officials in Russia's Novgorod region on Monday ordered most residents to stay away from work for another week starting November 8 as infections and deaths remained at an all-time high. The corona is still wreaking havoc in Russia, and more than 40,000 cases are coming to the country every day and more than 1,000 deaths are being reported.
