Udhagamandalam, Today an elephant trampled a 50-year-old banana grower due to which he died in a farm near Gudalur, some 70 km from here. Early this morning, Murugesan noticed an elephant in his banana farm in Muruganpadi destroying full grown bananas and pelted stones to drive it away.

Suddenly, the elephant charged him and he fell down in a bid to escape following which the pachyderm trampled him to death.

The relatives of man and officials from the forest and police department rushed to the spot, after receiving the information.

Later, the body was taken to the Gudalur government Hospital.
