BHUBANESWAR: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday that 5G services will be introduced in the eastern State before the Republic Day celebrations of the next year, asserting that the Center has approved Rs. 5,600 crore for telecom services in Odisha.

The minister added, seemingly in reference to the State's governing BJD "No one can now claim that the Center is ignoring the telecom industry in Odisha. A total of Rs. 5,600 crore from the Modi administration has been approved for telecom services in Odisha, and 5G services will be made available there before the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2023, he said.

The lack of cell towers in all villages in Odisha, according to Mr. Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology, was the subject of a recent survey.

The minister said that "Prime Minister Narendra Modi had instructed officials to ensure high-quality 4G and 5G services in all communities."
By March 2023, at least four cities in Odisha would have access to 5G services, according to Mr. Vaishnaw's predictions from October, and 80% of the state would have the new network by the end of the following year.
The 5G services, which claim to deliver ultra-high-speed internet on mobile devices, were introduced by PM Modi on October 1.

At a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the renovation of the Bhubaneswar railway station, the minister said, adding that the budget for Odisha includes about Rs. 10,000 crore for the improvement of railway infrastructure in 2022–2023.

Critics "have no justification to make the allegation of federal indifference to the state's telecom and railway sectors," he claimed, adding that "the Modi government has doubled the allocation for railroads in Odisha to Rs.10,000 crore per year from only Rs.800 crore during the UPA regime. If the State government cooperates and supplies the necessary land, railroad projects will advance." he  said.
