Guwahati: Fierce violence erupted on Monday (July 26, 2021) along the border over the Assam-Mizoram border dispute. The two states reportedly clashed between civilians on the border and vehicles were vandalized. Later, the Chief Ministers of Assam and Mizoram tweeted demanding union home minister Amit Shah to resolve the dispute.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that six Assam Police personnel have died in tension along the Assam-Mizoram border. Mizoram Chief Minister Joramthanga on Monday tagged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Prime Minister's Office and shared a video of clashes between police and civilians on his Twitter account. He has asked the Home Minister to take immediate action on the matter.
In another tweet, he wrote, "On their way back to Mizoram on the way to Chahar, the innocent couple was attacked by goons and their car ransacked. After all, how would you justify such violent incidents?'' Assam Police also tweeted in response. In a tweet, he wrote, "It is very unfortunate that some anti-social elements from Mizoram are pelting stones at government officials in Assam. These officers are deployed at Lailapur to protect Assam's land from encroachment.''
