Islamabad: Pakistan's anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday (April 18, 2022) convicted 89 accused and sentenced six to death and sentenced nine convicts to life imprisonment in connection with the burning alive of Sri Lankan national Priyantha Kumara lynching case. The remaining 72 murderers have also been sentenced to 2 years in jail each. Another was jailed for five years, while one has been acquitted.

Punjab Prosecution Department Secretary Nadeem Sarwar, while addressing a press conference in Lahore, informed about the court's decision. At the same time, the court has ordered the accused to pay two lakh rupees to the legal heirs of the deceased Priyantha. At the same time, the court has also imposed a fine of two lakh rupees on the convicts who have been sentenced to life imprisonment. According to Sarwar, the prosecution produced 43 witnesses in the court to prove the crime against all the accused. With this, the testimony of witnesses in the case was completed in a month in a fast-track manner. The court also gave time to the accused to defend themselves. On March 12, 2022, charges were framed in the case. Later on Monday (April 18), the ATC sentenced 88 convicts.
