Central govt initiated prob in 66 children death case after consuming cough syrup

New Delhi: The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning saying that it is more likely that 66 children in the Gambia have died due to drinking 4 cough syrups of cold and cough made in India. Following this warning, the Government of India has initiated an investigation into four cough syrups manufactured by a Haryana-based pharmaceutical company. Top sources in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have said that WHO has alerted the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) regarding cough syrups.  

Sources said, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has immediately taken up the matter with the Haryana Regulatory Authority and has initiated a detailed probe. It is being told that cough syrup has been manufactured by M/S Maiden Pharmaceutical Limited in Sonipat, Haryana. Sources have said that according to available information, it seems that the firm had exported these medicines only to the Gambia. However, the pharmaceutical company has not yet responded to these allegations.

According to reports, due to the toxic effect of the drug, stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, obstruction in urine, headache, the effect on the brain and the effect on the kidneys begin. Who says that these medicines should not be used until the authority of the country concerned is fully investigated. This can lead to other life-threatening diseases.
