7 WONDERS TO TRAVEL IN INDIA

In India people keep on traveling to explore new cultures, language, and communities, so in search of that most the tourist visit the seven wonders in India to full fill their needs and wants as a tourist, these seven wonders are GOMATESHWARA, HAMPI, GOLDEN TEMPLE, KHAJURAHO, KONARK, NALANDA, TAJ MAHAL.

Gomateshwara:-   gomateshwara is a monolithic statue, dedicated to the god Bahubali  of the Jain religion. located in Shravanabelagola in Karnataka, the massive art wonder was voted as one of the 7 wonders of India. the grand structure is one of the largest free-standing statues in the world and looks immensely peaceful & serene. a monolithic statue of Bahubali  referred to as “Gommateshvara” built by the Ganga dynasty minister and commander Chamundaraya is a 60 feet (18 m) monolith and is situated above a hill in Shravanabelagola, in the Hassan district of Karnataka. it was built in the 10th-century ad. Not only the Jain community but lots of other people from India keeps on traveling here to explore the beauty and culture of Jain and also to take blessings.

Even people who come from outside the country visit Gomateshwara to explore. the temple hosts the Mahamastakabhisheka festival which happens once in 12 years. during this celebration, the figurine is washed and polished with milk, saffron, and ghee to maintain the shimmer & luster of the rock. according to the Jain legends, Bahubali was a prince; the son of a king who had a hundred sons and two daughters. it is believed that Bahubali existed millions of years ago. the two-part melodramatic film, recently released in two parts, bears few similarities to the story of the Jain prince but none of the merit.

HAMPI:-  located by the banks of the river Tungabhadra in Karnataka, Hampi is one of the most famous places to travel in India. hampi is known for its historical ruins and relics of the grand Vijaynagar kingdom and the marvelous showcase of art has made it one of the seven wonders in India. the charming site is recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO and comprises stunning architectural ruins of temples and monuments.  monkey temple, archeological museum, Vijaya little temple, royal enclosure, virupaksha temple, queen’s bath, and riverside ruins. hampi is famous for its ruins which belong to the Vijayanagar Empire. this UNESCO world heritage site is also renowned for its group of monuments.

Surrounded by 500 ancient monuments, temples, buildings, and captivating ruins, Hampi is a historical delight for history buffs. following the defeat of the glorious Vijayanagara Empire, the army of the sultanates plundered the beautiful city of Hampi and reduced it to ruins, which it remains. now, it's just a ravaged barren area of land scattered with ruins that narrate the story of a violent past.

 

HARMANDIR  SAHEB  GOLDEN  TEMPLE:-  The golden temple is famous for its full golden dome, it is one of the most sacred pilgrim spots for Sikhs. the mandir is built on a 67-ft square of marble and is a two-storied structure. maharaja ranjit singh had the upper half of the building built with approximately 400 kg of gold leaf. maharaja ranjit Singh, after founding the Sikh empire, rebuilt it in marble and copper in 1809 and overlaid the sanctum with gold leaf in 1830. this has led to the name the golden temple. the golden temple is spiritually the most significant shrine in Sikhism. the golden temple timings on all days of the week are between 05:00 am and 10:00 pm.

The Amritsar airport is about 13 kilometers from the golden temple, while the Amritsar Junction railway station is less than 2 kilometers from the shrine. the golden temple, harmandir sahib, is surrounded by other milky white temples and the moat. built-in 1577, the temple's dome is gilded with 750 kg of pure gold. it is founded by fourth sikh guru guru ramdas. the pond surrounding the golden temple is called Amrit Sarovar meaning the pool of the nectar of immortality. it is considered extremely sacred by the devotees and they believe that taking a bath in the holy waters of the Sarovar will purify them of their karma.

KHAJURAHO:- Khajuraho is one of the selected Seven Wonders in India, known for its cluster of marvelous Hindu & Jain temple structures and their jaw-dropping statuettes. The spectacular artwork and sculptures depicting supreme romance and eternal love are not only acclaimed in India but also worldwide.  Kandariya Mahadev Temple, Devi Jagadambi Temple, Chausath Yogini Temple, Chitragupta Temple, Vishwanath Temple, Nandi Temple, Varaha Temple, and the Sound and Light Show depicting the reign of the Chandela dynasty. The temples at Khajuraho were built during the Chandella dynasty, which reached its apogee between 950 and 1050. Only about 20 temples remain; they fall into three distinct groups and belong to two different religions – Hinduism and Jainism. They strike a perfect balance between architecture and sculpture.

The Temple of Kandariya is decorated with a profusion of sculptures that are among the greatest masterpieces of Indian art. The Khajuraho Group of Monuments demonstrates in layout and physical form, the pinnacle of temple architectural development in northern India. Built-in sandstone, each temple is elevated from its environs by a highly ornate terraced platform, or jati, on which stands the body, or sangha, whose sanctum is topped by a tower, or shikhara, of a type unique to Nagara, where the verticality of the principal spire atop the sanctum is accentuated by a series of miniature spires flanking it, each symbolizing Mount Kailasa, the abode of the Gods.

KONARK:-  is a cluster of ancient temples with stunning artwork & sculptures. this stone beauty is one of the fabulous seven wonders in India, built in a typical Kalinga style pattern by King Narasimha Deva-i of the Ganga dynasty. on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, bathed in the rays of the rising sun, the temple at Konarak is a monumental representation of the sun god Surya's chariot; its 24 wheels are decorated with symbolic designs and it is led by a team of six horses. it is located on the eastern shore of India. konark sun temple was built in Orissa by the Eastern Ganga dynasty ruler in the 13th century, Narasimha Deva i. the legend or mystery tale goes that many devadasis used to spend the night inside the temple halls before or after their performances. As a result, when the Portuguese sailors attacked the temple in an attempt to remove the magnet, they collapsed the majority of the structure.

NALANDA:- located near Patna, is one of the ancient education centers in India. this is one of the oldest universities in the world. it is believed that students from China, Tibet, Persia, and Greece traveled up here to attain education and enhance their learning skills. the excavated ruins of Nalanda have enticed history enthusiasts and travelers through the ages which led to its presence on the list of seven wonders of India. paprika mango grove, surya mandir, hidden Tsang memorial hall, Nalanda archaeological museum, and the great stupa. nalanda, an ancient university and Buddhist monastic center southwest of Bihar Sharif in central Bihar state, northeastern India.

Nalanda’s traditional history dates to the time of the Buddha (6th–5th centuries bce) and Mahavira, the founder of the Jaina religion. according to a later Tibetan source, Nagarjuna (the 2nd–3rd-century ce Buddhist philosopher) began his studies there. extensive excavations carried out by the archaeological survey of India indicate, however, that the foundation of the monasteries belongs to the Gupta period (5th-century ce). the powerful 7th-century ruler of Kanauj is reported to have contributed to them. according to pilgrims’ accounts, from Gupta times the monasteries of Nalanda were surrounded by a high wall.

TAJ MAHAL:-  the white marble mausoleum in Agra, was built by the Mughal emperor shah jahan to iconize his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. this marvelous masterpiece is regarded as one of the world heritage sites and showcases Islamic artwork. taj mahal is not only considered to be one of the 7 wonders of India but it is also listed among the seven wonders of the medieval world.

it was built by Mughal emperor shah jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal with construction starting in 1632 ad and completed in 1648 ad, the mosque, the guest house, and the main gateway on the south, the outer courtyard and its cloisters were added subsequently and completed in 1653 AD. the taj mahal was designated as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1983 for being “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage”. it is regarded by many as the best example of Mughal architecture and a symbol of India's rich history.
