New Delhi: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has said that 719 doctors have lost their lives so far in the second wave of corona epidemic in the country. According to IMA, the highest number of doctors died in Bihar, 111 in Bihar, 109 in Delhi, 79 in Uttar Pradesh and 63 in West Bengal. According to ima, 748 doctors across the country lost their lives due to corona infection last year.

Earlier on June 3, IMA reported that 624 doctors had died in the second wave. Now, according to updated data released by IMA, 43 doctors have lost their lives in Rajasthan, 39 in Jharkhand, 37 in Gujarat, 36 in Telangana, 35 in Andhra Pradesh, 32 in Tamil Nadu, 28 in Odisha, 24 in Kerala, 23 in Maharashtra and 16 in Madhya Pradesh during the second wave so far. However, IMA has not reported the immunization status of doctors who lost their lives.

State that vaccination for healthcare workers in the country started on January 16. According to the Union Health Ministry, 1,00,34,573 healthcare workers in the country have so far been administered the first dose of corona vaccine and 69,44,682 both doses. In a recent letter to PM Modi, IMA said that doctors who lost their lives in the fight against the corona epidemic should be given the status of a covid martyr for their sacrifice and their families should be given proper support by the government.
