Lord Mahavir also known as Vardhamana as the twenty-fourth and last Jain Tirthankara. He devoted his life towards spreading his Keval Jnana among people and gave discourses in local languages as opposed to in elite Sanskrit. He encouraged participation of people from all social standings, rich and poor, men and women, touchable and untouchable. His teaching helps us to handle ups and downs and to live a happy life.

1. In happiness and suffering, in joy and grief, we should regard all creatures as we regard our own self.

8. Attachment and aversion are the root cause of karma, and karma originates from infatuation. Karma is the root cause of birth and death, and these are said to be the source of misery. None can escape the effect of their own past karma.
