New Delhi: So far, 80 people, along with 59 civilians, have been killed in a terror attack in the African country of Burkina Faso. The country's President Roach Mark Kabor has declared three days of national mourning. According to media reports, the government reported on Thursday (August 19) that a convoy was ambushed by Islamist militants near the northern city of Gorgadji on Wednesday. The attack killed 59 civilians along with 6 voluntary defence fighters, 15 soldiers. The initial death toll on Wednesday was reported to be 47.

No terrorist group has so far taken responsibility for the attack in Burkina Faso, but al-Qaida and ISIS-related militants have often attacked security forces in the West African country. According to reports, soldiers and volunteer defence fighters were protecting civilians leaving for Aurobindo, another city in northern Burkina. Meanwhile, the terrorists ambushed them and attacked them. According to the government, security forces gunned down 58 terrorists in the encounter and took the rest with them. He said 19 people were also injured in the encounter. Rescue and relief operations are underway.

Tell you that there is unrest all over the country due to terrorist attacks. Without modern weapons, the army is taking iron from the terrorists. There were widespread protests in July 2021, which increased pressure on the government. This led to President Roach Mark dismissing his defence and security ministers. He then declared himself defence minister.
