Chandigarh: The number of people who died due to drinking poisonous liquor in Punjab is increasing continuously. The number of people who died by late Saturday has risen to 86. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, while taking action in this case, has suspended seven excise officers and six policemen. Local authorities have given information in this regard.

The government has announced a compensation of two lakh rupees for the families of the deceased. At the same time, 25 people have been arrested in this case so far. Poisonous liquor has led to the maximum deaths of 63 in Tarn Taran, followed by 12 in Amritsar and 11 in Gurdaspur's Batala. In the state's tragedy that began on Wednesday night, 39 people lost their lives by Friday night. It is being told that the death toll may increase further.

According to an official statement, CM Amarinder has issued an order suspending seven excise officers along with six policemen. The suspended officers include two Deputy Superintendents of Police and four police in-charge. CM Amarinder said that if any government official or others are found involved in this case, strict action will be taken against them. He said that the failure of police and excise department to stop the production and sale of poisonous liquor is shameful.
