The electoral campaigning in Tripura ended on Friday at 4 PM. The state will go to vote on February 18 i.e. two days later. The state was visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhartiya Janta Party President Amit Shah, and Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

The BJP geared up for campaigning in a state where it has no hold. Tripura has been in leftist power since the last 25 years and it is quite a challenge for BJP, which is ideologically contradictory to the CPI(M), the current ruling party in Tripura with Manik Sarkar as the Chief Minister.

Both Amit Shah and Narendra Modi held rallies in the state. Tripura Assembly election has always seen a competition between Congress and CPI(M). However, Congress seems less aggressive as Congress President Rahul Gandhi visited the state only once, on the last day of campaigning.

Manik Sarkar also addressed around 35 rallies collectively in the state and 15 rallies in his constituency Dhanpur. The BJP has escalated its approach in the state for the first time looking for its maiden win in the north-eastern state though BJP has poor records of both 2014 Lok Sabha polls and 2013 state assembly election where it won 5.70 percent votes and 1.5 percent votes respectively.
