Centre warns Whatsapp to control fake, inciting content

New Delhi [India], July 4 (NT): The Centre Government of India has issued a warning to the well liked and instant messaging app 'Whatsapp', in the wake of killings taking place across the nation due to rumors that rounded via the app.

"The abuse of platform like WhatsApp for repeated circulation of such provocative content" is of deep concern to the Government of India. The ministry has taken note of these incidents as well as the circulation of provocative rumours being spread on the platforms," an official note from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology released stated.

The top management of the WhatsApp has been informed of the incidents and disturbance created by such circulated messages and have been instructed to take curative measures to right away contain the propagation of the fake messages, the EMA released further said.

The Ministry also highlighted that such a platform cannot avoid accountability and responsibility especially when good technological inventions are abused by some mischief makers who routes to provocative messages which lead to spread of aggression.

 Worth mention here Last week, five people were lynched to death by villagers in  Dhule district, Maharashtra after videos of child lifters were actively rounded on a WhatsApp group.
