Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala addressed the party workers at the Congress Plenary Session in New Delhi on Saturday.

Surjewala slammed Narendra Modi led government at the centre over issues of bank fraud and plight of farmers in the country. He blamed Modi for the current distress among farmers saying the government has betrayed the farmers.

“The biggest betrayal anyone has ever done to the farmers of the country is the present Modi government,” said Surjewala at the session.

He further lashed out at the central government for not implementing the recommendations by M.S. Swaminathan in the Swaminathan report to control the agrarian crisis in the country. BJP had promised to implement the report in its manifesto.

“Modi Ji's govt scrapped farmers' Swaminathan Committee and replaced it with 'Jumlanathan Committee',” said Surjewala taking a dig at Modi.

Surjewala put forth a question before the central government regarding their policies on farmers’ welfare.

“I would like to ask Modi govt, doesn't the market distort when Nirav Modi, MehulChoksi, Vijay Mallya and Jatin Mehta flee out of the country and does it only distort when farmers ask for Minimum Support Price?,” said Surjewala.

Congress Plenary Session is being held in New Delhi. The gathering was addressed by Sonia Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor, among others, earlier in the day.
