The recent studies regarding Type 1 Diabetes, postulated that the inflammatory proteins existing in our body are actually associated with depression in this form of diabetes, according to a study.
The researchers at the Lund University in Sweden, have been doing experiments and research regarding the same. In the studies, it was informed that galectin-3 levels are quite helpful for detecting depression. It was also postulated that type-1  and type-2 diabetes, often impose a risk of the patient suffering from Depression.

The causes behind diabetes leading to depression have remained unexplained for a long time.

The researchers explained that Galectin-3 is a prominent protein which is involved in inducing inflammatory responses by the Immune system.

Increase in the levels of galectin-3 has been associated with the risk of inflammatory disorders that include Alzheimer's disease and various other cardiovascular disorders.

The studies made regarding the same revealed that depression and diabetes are closely linked to each other since both of these are linked to inflammation in various parts of the body. Well, scientists are still discovering facts about how galectin-3 plays a role in the process.

It was also informed that people who suffered from Type-1 diabetes and depression were diagnosed with higher levels of Galectin-3.
