Washington D.C. [USA], Jul 19 (NT): United States President Donald Trump  took a complete U-turn on election meddling and made allegations on his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for Moscow's suspected attempts in meddling in the 2016 US presidential polls on Wednesday.

Trump said this in CBS interview.

"I would because he's in charge of the country just like I consider myself to be responsible for things that happen in this country. So certainly as the leader of the country you would have to hold him responsible. I let him know we can't have this. We're not going to have it. And that's the way it's going to be," CNN  quoted Trump as saying.

Trump acknowledged the assessments made by US intelligence agencies, which held Russia accountable for interfering in the presidential election.

Trump, meanwhile, expressed grief that there was no media coverage during his face to face talks with Putin at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki that ended over two hours.

"They didn't cover my meeting, the important thing frankly was the meeting that lasted for two and a half hours or almost two and a half hours, and in that meeting, we discussed many, many things that were very, very positive for both countries,” Trump added.

Before the interview, Trump in counterattack to his critics over the summit with Putin and tweeted,

"Some people HATE the fact that I got along well with President Putin of Russia. They would rather go to war than see this. It's called Trump Derangement Syndrome!"
