Indore: The contractual worker died due to suffocation. A State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and another man employed at the IMC lost consciousness in the same incident.A man employed at the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) lost his life while cleaning a drainage chamber. Here it is to be noted that the deceased was identified as Shoukit Islam. A resident of Kolkata, the deceased was not wearing any safety gear. The other man lost consciousness after he went to rescue the deceased. The incident took place at the Banganga area on Monday.

However it is worth mention here that after being informed about the incident, SDRF officials reached the area. It was alleged that when the deceased did not come out of the drain for a long time, the contractor who was working at the area asked Shehenshah Sheikh to check on him. While talking to Source, Sharad Chandra Rai, an SDRF official said that after Shehenshah fainted, he was tied to a rope and pulled out of the drain. Even though the rope was stuck around his neck, Shehenshah survived. After Shehenshah was pulled out, another SDRF official. Govind Patil was sent inside the chamber to rescue Shoukit. Patil was able to take Shoukit out but he fell ill.

To be noted Rai stated that the deaths came as a cause of negligence since the workers were not wearing any safety equipment. The locals blamed the contractor for urging Shehenshah to go inside the chamber. Contrary to the allegations put on him, the contractor said that they had all safety arrangements in place and that he did not know why the workers fell unconscious. This incident came to light just days after six workers died after inhaling toxic gas. The incident took place in Sriperumpudur, Chennai. A trader named Krishanmurthy pumped out muck from the drainage but when he looked inside the drain, he choked. As he called for help, his sons eventually came to his rescue but fell unconscious. The incident took place because of the alleged absence of necessary safety gear.
