Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], Nov. 11 (NT): Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that structural reforms are desirable in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.

Addressing at a public meeting in Gandhinagar, Raul Gandhi told, "It's a good thing that the government has lacerated the tax rate from 28 percent to 18 percent for many products because of the pressure on Saffron party made by the Congress party and the people of India."

Rahul further said, "We are still not glad and won't stop here. India doesn't want five different types of taxes, we want one. There's a need to make structural changes in the Goods and Services Tax (GST)."

on Wednesday, while talking with traders in Gujarat's Surat, Congress vice-president said they (Congress) will re-evaluate and restructure the Goods and Service Tax (GST), if they win and come to power at the Centre in the 2019 general elections.

"We were in opposition to the execution of GST because the Government's report was not right. Eventually when Modi ji realized it was a gaffe, he said Congress was also a part of it," Rahul quoted

He further said that ruling government's description of GST is not the actual one and accused the Centre of making the uniform tax reform "complex".

"GST is one tax modification, not five tax. The Centre does not know the sense of GST. They made the GST multifaceted. We asked them for a straightforward edition," Rahul said.
