NEW DELHI: A complaint has been registered on the grounds sedition and criminal conspiracy in a Delhi court against senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saifuddin Soz for making 'derogatory' remarks against the Army.

The complaint was lodged by advocate Shashi Bhushan at the Patiala House Court, as reported ANI – the leading news agency.

“Criminal complaint filed against Congress senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saifuddin Soz in Delhi's Patiala House Court for making 'seditious statements against Indian Army'.” ANI tweeted.

Veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had recently landed into a controversy when in a TV interview on June 22, he asserted that ''more civilians were being killed in Army operations in Jammu and Kashmir than terrorists.''

The plea lodged by Bhushan seeks action against the lawmakers for offences under Sections 124 (sedition), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 505 (1) (spreading rumour about Army/Navy/IAF official which is likely to cause mutiny) of the Indian Penal Code.

In his plea, the petitioner claimed that the alleged statements were portraying the Army as killers of innocents which was "nothing less than waging war against the country".

The lawsuit will now come up for hearing on Saturday before a magisterial court here.
