Surveys conducted across the country suggested that out of all the cases of pregnancies reported, hypertension was observed as a major complication that badly influenced the health of both, the infant and the mother.

The reports suggested that a category of disorders called Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs) include chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia (superimposed on chronic hypertension) and white coat hypertension.
Studies postulated that HDP's create an unsuitable environment for the fetus, in the uterus. It brings about various unfavorable changes in the Uterus like reduced placental blood flow, maternal inflammation, and oxidative stress.

These changes can lead to severe developmental disorders in the fetus and may further cause chronic vascular, cognitive and psychiatric complications.

HDP more prominently cause neurodevelopmental disorders like ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder).

Autism, refers to issues in 2 aspects, in social interaction, and in social communication. The patient has limited interests and not everything excites them.

Other symptoms of ADHD include hyperactivity, poor decision-making, and trouble in paying attention.

However, it has been suggested that such neurodevelopmental disorders can be cured if dealt with, quite early in life.
