India, China press for peace, harmony in border areas at WMCC

New Delhi [India], Mar 23 (NT): India and China emphasized that upholding of peace and harmony in the respective border areas was a central pre-requisite for the further development of bilateral ties between both countries.

The 11th round of the Working Mechanism on Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) for India-China Border Affairs was carried out in New Delhi on Thursday.

The Indian delegation was led by Pranay Verma, Joint Secretary (East Asia), Ministry of External Affairs, on the other hand, the Chinese delegation was led by Yi Xianliang, Director General, Department of Boundary and Oceanic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China.

The discussions were held in a pleasant and cordial atmosphere. Both sides exchanged views on ways to get better border management.

A range of confidence-building measures were discussed at further enhancing the level of mutual trust and perceptive between border personnel.

India and China also agreed to see the sights of the possibility of strengthening cooperation through exchange of visits and institutionalized conversation mechanisms in order to endorse better understanding and cooperation between the two defence forces.

 China also agreed to hold the next meeting of the WMCC at a mutually convenient time.
