Since August 8, the death number has increased to 324 due to floods. 106 people died in a single day due to disastrous flood. 2 lakh people have become homeless. Many parts of central Kerala has been affected. Kochi airport has been closed due to filling up of water till August 26. All 35 dams, including Mullaperiyar, have been filled up, from which water is being released continuously. 

Local fishermen have also taken their boats in the campaign to save the stranded people in Aluva, Kaladi, Perumbavur, Muwattupuzha and Chalakudi. Citizens from Kerala, living in Australia, the United States and Britain, are pleading with officials to help their relatives. 

On the instructions of the prime minister, the new teams were sent from all the three organs of the Army, the Ministry of Defense has sent new teams to all the three organs of the Army for relief and rescue operations in Kerala. Nearly 1.5 lakh homeless and displaced people in the state have taken shelter in relief camps. 12 additional NDRF teams have also been sent to the state.

Due to the circumstances, more than 25 trains have either been cancelled or their time has been changed. Although, so far the services of Kochi Metro have not been interrupted. The patients have been shifted to another hospital after entering flood water in Kochi's private hospital.
