NAGGAR CASTLE

Some places are so special that they have the power to deport you long back in our old memories. Naggar Castles is one of them. This place cherished my childhood memories. I believe that not only human beings but some places make some important place in your life. This place gives me peace and brings my childhood joy which is so special for me. I have been their thrice. This place keeps calling me again and again. Believe me every time my excitement level was same.  I still remember when I first visited this place with my family. I was a young girl who loves nature. Second time I went there as a married women.  Recently I visited this place again for the third time. It is an old castle like we imagine in our childhood fairy tell stories. Everything is made of woods which gives a feel that you are in some European suburb house which has been converted into the hotel.

"Located in Naggar Town, amidst breathtaking forested hills, the Naggar Castle is a magnificent historical edifice. Made of stone and wood, this palace served as the residence of Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu. It was built in AD 1460 in an impressive amalgamation of European and Himalayan architecture. Fireplaces, fitting staircases, and magnificent stone and wood works grace the castle's interiors.  Steeped in history, the Naggar Castle boasts of stupendous architectural features are really amazing. Extraordinary artworks in the interiors are remarkable. Not only me but whole Bollywood industry is also a big fan of this place. Hero (story of a spy) staring sunny deol, Priyanka chopra and Preeti zinta was shot when I first visited this place. After many years the block buster song from the super hit movie Jab we met had been shot there as well. List is not ended here only many movies and songs like Piya Basanti re etc had been shot here. In the year 1978, the castle was converted into a rest house, and more recently into a heritage hotel that is run by Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC). The holy Beas River flows close to the castle, adding beauty and sanctity to it. If you are planning for summer holidays, Manali has to be in your bucket list. I would say no trip to Manali is actually complete if you don't pay a visit to this attraction."

ROERICH ART GALLERY

Nicolas Roerich (Nikolai Roerich) was a Russian painter, who also wrote poetry and made Naggarhis home for the last few years of his life. He travelled extensively through Tibet and the Himalayas. Nicolas Roerich’s old home (ground floor) has now been converted into the Roerich Museum; he lived here from the late 1920s till 1947.

Nicolas Roerich had varied interests and was also known to be a writer, philosopher, archeologist, explorer and mystic.

JAGATIPATT TEMPLE

Jagatipatt Temple is housed in Naggar castle’s open courtyard. This temple is very pretty and rich in architecture. It is a stone-walled structure with triangular wooden roofs and intricate carvings on wooden windows. There is an interesting legend that says that the stone slab in the temple here was carried by honeybees that were an incarnation of all the deities.

A very striking feature of the temple when one is roaming in the courtyard of the Naggar Castle is the exquisite wooden door that is almost always closed. The Jagatipatt Temple commands respect among locals and in case of any natural calamities like earthquakes, people from nearby villages gather here to discuss the course of action.
