New Delhi [India], Feb.13 (NT): President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday paid tribute to renowned poet, political leader and freedom fighter, Sarojini Naidu, on her birth anniversary.

President Kovind took his Twitter handle and said, "Tributes to Sarojini Naidu - poet, political leader and pioneer of our women's movement, on her birth anniversary #PresidentKovind" , Prez tweeted

Sarojini Naidu is well-versed as the Nightingale of India or Bharatiya Kokila. Her poems were known to be imagery and gesticulate for supreme love.

She was Born on February 13, 1879 who had an fondness towards writing since the age of 12. Her anthology of poems 'The Broken Wings' was published in 1905. She took part the Indian national movement during the Bengal Partition in 1905.

She took the chair over the annual session of Indian National Congress in Kanpur in 1925. In 1929 She attended the East African Indian Congress in South Africa in. In 1930 the great poetess participated in the Round Table talks with Mahatma Gandhi and Madan Mohan Malaviya.

Sarojini Naidu was later appointed the Governor of the United Provinces, now Uttar Pradesh.She met with her angles on March 2, 1949, at the Government House in Lucknow. (NT)
