How to make Punjabi Mix Dal
Step 1
First soak the chana dal and urad dal separately for about 15 - 20 minutes. Wash them thrice and keep separately.
Step 2
In a pressure cooker, add 2 cups of water and chana dal. Add salt and turmeric powder. Cook until 2 whistles and turn off the gas. Let it cool.
Step 3
Add soaked urad dal into the boiled chana dal, cook until 2 whistles.
Step 4
For tempering - take a pan, add oil or clarified butter into it. Once the oil begins to get hot, add cumin seeds and whole red chillies.
Step 5
When the cumin seeds start to crackle, add chopped garlic and saute for 3 - 4 minutes.
Step 6
Add chopped onion, saute it until onion becomes translucent. Now add green chilli and tomato into it.
Step 7
Cook until the tomato becomes tender or soft. Add red chilli powder, saute it and turn off the gas.
Step 8
Pour this tempering on the dal and the mix dal is ready. Serve it hot with roti, rumali roti or naan.
