The word Rasam is originated from the word ‘rasa’ which determines juice or extract. The different names for Rasam include ‘Chaaru’ in Telugu and ‘Saaru’ in Kannada. Here too, the word 'saaru' is derived from the word ‘Saar’ which means essence. Known as a comfort food of South Indian belt, this soup-like dish is tangy in flavour and with time has travelled pan India and even abroad.  Though experimentation has revived the face of this dish globally, the essence lies in the magical power of this dish that not only fulfils the taste buds but also quietly protects the human body from various health issues.

Different types of Rasam

The most famous rasam that can be relished pan India is ‘Tomato Rasam’. This rasam basically uses the tomato pulp along with rasam powder and tamarind puree. Apart from this, other types of rasam cover Mysore Rasam, Pineapple Rasam, Pepper Cumin Rasam, Garlic Rasam, Tamarind Rasam, Drumstick Rasam, Ginger Coriander Rasam, Curd Rasam and Dala Rasam.
