The holy month of Shravan, which is fondly known as Sawan mas, is the fifth month of the Hindu calender. This Shravan month is considered the holiest month of the year and it is devoted to Lord Shiva. This is the first and most fortunate month of Chatur Mas (the four holiest months according to the Hindu calendar).

However almost all the days of Shravan month are considered auspicious, but the first Monday of the month of Shravan has also unique value in Hindu community cultural values. The word Sawan derives its name from the star "Shravan" that rules the sky on Poornima mean the night of the full moon.

According to the hindu mythology it is believed that worshiping Lord Shiva during Shravan month is more powerful than worshiping during normal days. Each day of Shravan is considered as very devout and special prayers and rituals are performed at Lord Shiva Temples across the nation.

In Madhya Pradesh, Early morning prayers were being held at Ujjain's Mahakal temple on the first Monday of 'Sawan' month.

In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh Devotees offered prayers at Anandeshwar Temple on the first Monday of 'Sawan' month.

 Worth mention here in Kanpur, Water level of river Ganga which is believed to one of the most sacred river is rising following heavy rainfall in the region. The local administration has evacuated the low-lying villages near Ganges Barrage and  the residents have been shifted to different places.

In the national capital Delhi, Devotees offer prayers at Gauri Shankar Temple on the first Monday of 'sawan' month.

In the PM Modi led consistency Varanasi, Devotees queued up outside Kashi Vishwanath Temple to offer prayers on the first Monday of 'Sawan' month.
