In 2019, the Congress has joined the plan in order to keep the BJP away from power. Party sources say that Congress can support Mayawati or Mamta Banerjee as the Prime Minister to stop BJP. But such a situation will come when the Congress will get fewer seats than expected.
In fact, Congress does not want to scatter the coalition at any cost. In the meeting of the Congress Working Committee, all the party's leaders had told Congress President Rahul Gandhi to hand over the leadership of the general body. Immediately after that JDS's statement came that it had no problem with the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.
But there was a voice of opposition from Bihar on Tuesday. RJD leader and son of Lalu Prasad Yadav said that Rahul Gandhi is not in the race for PM post alone. He said that all opposition parties will sit together and decide on the name of the prime minister's candidate.
On Wednesday, Mayawati, giving a brief message to the Congress, said that the alliance in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh is possible only when her party will get honourable seats. Even if there are no honourable seats in this agreement, his party is fully prepared to fight alone.
Significantly, after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, Congress party has declared Rahul Gandhi a candidate for PM post for 2019. After the meeting, party spokesman Randeep Surjewala said, "Congress's decision is accurate, flat and clear. Rahul Gandhi is our face. We will go among the people under his leadership. When we are the largest party then it will naturally be the same face. There is no scope for doubt."
But the Congress allies in the UPA are reluctant to discuss the leadership of Rahul. On the claim of Rahul's PM's post, no party is showing dissatisfaction except JDS. Mamta Banerjee has refused to speak on this. While BSP leaders have already decided to make Mayawati a PM face of the alliance. In the name of Rahul, BSP leaders are not ready to say anything, they say that Mayawati will decide on this.
Akhilesh Yadav has already said that after the election the coalition leader will be decided. In such a scenario, the Congress is working on every front and in this episode, the party has now indicated that if such a situation arises after the election, then there is no option other than making Mayawati or Mamta Banerjee a PM.
