Trade Clash: Trump To levy Additional $200 Billion Tariffs On Chinese Imports

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump maintained his trade clash with China Tuesday, imposing an additional $200 billion tarriff in Chinese products.

The Step makes good on the US president's threat to counter China’s retaliation for the initial U.S. tariffs on $34 billion in Chinese goods, which went into effect on Friday and would ultimately slap nearly half of all Chinese imports under tariffs.

Administration officials stated that the tariff fight has focus on forcing China to stop stealing American intellectual property and to throw out policies that effectively compel U.S. companies to give in their trade secrets in return for access to the Chinese market.

"These practices are an existential threat to America's most critical comparative advantage and the future of our economy," Robert Lighthizer, the president's chief trade negotiator was quoted by CNN.

Worth mention here Trump's recent action will hit consumer products, such as televisions, clothing, bedsheets and air conditioners, which were past the worst from the first import slapping on Friday.

On the other hand Beijing has pledged to take action in kind to any U.S. trade action.
