Archeology lovers will really love this place. 483 km from Bangalore city of Karnataka state, this town is situated on the banks of the river Malaprabha. Story Behind Aihole:

Aihole used to be the first capital of Chalukyas. According to the tradition, the great warrior Brahmin Parasuram used to live here. Once, after killing many Kshatriyas with axe, they had washed their bloody axe in Malaprabha river, which is why this river is red. Aihole literally means- What the river is!

What do you make Aihol famous? 125 temples of Chalukya make it very special in Aihole. Here is the oldest Ladd Khan temple that is said to be of the fifth century. Gowda Temple, Suryanarayana Temple, Durga temple is another famous temple here.

The Ravana Fadi Cave located here is the oldest rock-cut cave temple in the country. Aihole is also famous for an inscription, which tells the history here. Aihole is located 483 kilometers from Bangalore, which can be easily reached by road. The nearest railway station here is Badami.
