Manila: The Department of Migrant Workers reported on Tuesday that Philippine Secretary for Migrant Workers Susan Ople met with a Saudi delegation from Takamol Holding in Manila to discuss collaborating on using technology to enhance services for Filipinos working abroad in the Kingdom.
A quarter of all OFWs from the Southeast Asian nation of the Philippines are already employed and residing in Saudi Arabia, which is their preferred location in the Middle East.
The executive vice president of Takamol, Fowzan Al-Muhaidib, led the Saudi delegation that met with Ople and other representatives on Monday.

In order to improve service delivery, they talked about "strengthening their partnership" and "exploring opportunities for collaboration on the use of technology for ease of doing business."

A number of skill verification programmes for migrant workers in the Kingdom, including those in Sri Lanka and India, have been launched by Takamol, an organisation that falls under the purview of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development.
According to an Ople announcement from the end of May, Manila and Riyadh have begun discussions to launch a special mass-hiring programme for skilled Filipino workers as the Philippines looks to expand its employment opportunities in Saudi Arabia as part of its Vision 2030 economic diversification plan.

Ople claimed that the programme would concentrate on the tourism industry, which is booming in the Kingdom and may create 1 million jobs for educated Filipinos.
This month in Manila, a delegation from the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development is anticipated to continue discussions about the programme.
