Moscow: Early on Wednesday, two drones were shot down nearby a military base in the Moscow region, but no injuries or casualties were reported, according to the regional governor.

According to regional governor Andrei Vorobyov on Telegram, "two drones crashed today at 5:30 and 5:50 in the morning on approach to storage units of a military base" in the Naro-Fominsk district, about 50 kilometres (31 miles) southwest of the city of Moscow. The drones were also shot down.

The assault happened as Ukraine launched a counteroffensive to reclaim territory taken by Russian forces. Over the past few weeks, there have been more assaults, mostly by drones, on Russian territory bordering Ukraine.

Nearly 500 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, Moscow and its surroundings have only occasionally been attacked.

Two drones were shot over the Kremlin in early May, and in the latter part of the same month, drones struck Moscow high-rises.
