Faridkot: On Tuesday night, Punjab police arrested a 62-year-old man from Faridkot's Jaitu sub-division for the allegedly killing his own son. The accused, identified as one Chhota Singh, a resident of Dabri Khana village has been charged with the murder of his 40-year-old son Rajwinder Singh. The accused attacked his son with a sharp weapon when the latter was sleeping in his room, said police. A report asserted that Chhota Singh murdered his son over an alleged affair with the victim's wife Jasvir Kaur.

An official familiar with the matter added that after Chhota Singh murdered Rajwinder, he cut the latter's body into pieces and disposed of them in a sewer by packing them up in plastic bags. The crime came to light when Chhota Singh's nephew woke up and noticed blood stains in the house.

Gurcharan Singh, the nephew, wasted no time in alerting police officials which led to the accused's arrest. Kin of the accused told media outlets that the victim had been married to his wife for 12 years and the couple have two children. However, Chhota Singh's alleged affair with his daughter-in-law had created a rift between the father and the son which led to the tragic instance. It is also believed that the accused was planning to marry Jasvir Kaur.

Handling the investigation into Rajwinder Singh's murder, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kuldeep Singh Sohi said that a case has been registered in this regard under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He further added that the remains of the victim will be handed over to his family once the post-mortem is conducted.
