CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore police nabbed five members of a group for allegedly trying to kill a man in order to convert him to the opposition. The group had just arrived in Coimbatore and was intending to murder Kumaresan, a city resident who had opposed his son Arunkumar's conversion to Islam following his marriage to a Muslim girl.

Arunkumar (28) of Coimbatore, Kumaresan's son, worked at a private enterprise in Hyderabad and married a Muslim girl, Sahana Hashmi Mohammed of Tiruvarur, according to police.

Arunkumar's parents were present during the wedding, which was held in a temple in Coimbatore in accordance with Hindu norms. Following the wedding, the girl's mother, Noor Nisha, a Muslim office-bearer in Tiruvarur, called Arunkumar and asked him to convert to Islam. Kumaresan, Arun's father, was against it.

Infuriated, Nisha approached Fakruddin, the President of the Indian Muslim Development Association (IMDA) from Kodungaiyur in Chennai, and allegedly asked for his assistance in eliminating Kumaresan, according to police. Fakruddin conspired with four others from Uttar Pradesh, Imran Khan, Saddam Hussein, M. Mohammad Ali Jinnah, and T. Ajai, to assassinate Kumaresan, and arrived in Coimbatore armed with lethal weapons.
