A retired nurse says she witnessed Rahul Gandhi's birth

Wayanad: Congress President Rahul Gandhi is being targeted for his citizenship. Now, Amid the controversy a retired nurse said that she was present at the time when the Gandhi family scion was born in Delhi on June 19, 1970. 

A 72-year-old retired nurse, Rajamma Vavathil was still undergoing training when Sonia Gandhi went into labour and was rushed to Delhi's Holy Family Hospital.  Vavathi told PTI, "I was lucky as I was first among the few who took the newborn baby in my hands. He was so cute. I was witness to his birth. I was thrilled... we all were thrilled to see the grandson of prime minister Indira Gandhi.”

She  says that she's saddened by the news of the Home Ministery sending him notice over his citizenship, terming the allegations as "baseless."

On Wednesday, The Union Home Ministry had sent a notice to congress President asking him to clarify within a fortnight on a complaint questioning his citizenship status. The ministry has reportedly acted on BJP MP Subramanian Swamy's complaint that a company named Backups Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in 2003 with Gandhi as one of its directors.  Swamy has alleged that the company in its annual returns mentioned Gandhi’s nationality as British.
