Paris: The crisis in Europe over the Ukraine conflict has reached "unprecedented proportions", according to French President Emmanuel Macron. He continued by saying that the continent has to decide whether it wants to be independent or completely dependent on the US or China.

The French president said that both the direct and indirect effects of this war were "deeply affecting" Europe's economic model in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

The "polarity" between the US and China defines the world in terms of economics, and Europe has not yet decided whether it wants to "be a vassal of either" or follow a path of independence and solidarity wants to long vowel.

Europe has yet to fully answer this question, but the solution is "an independent, technologically advanced and militarily strong Europe. Alternatively, a truly strong Europe," the French president insisted. .

The reason why Europe is currently in crisis, Macron thinks, is because the post-Cold War era has not been "digested" enough by the continent.

The French President claimed that after the Cold War ended, the European Union rapidly expanded eastward in the mistaken belief that "the problems had been solved."

He said that Eastern Europe wants more national autonomy within the EU and that "we need to know how to listen to them" because currently the EU consists of two groups of nations with different views on the future.

However, Macron claims that the crisis affects not only Europe but all Western democracies, which are "experiencing a kind of fatigue, a loss of collective context."

He continued that the global capitalist system is in crisis because it no longer helps people escape poverty but instead only sees "inequalities skyrocket", resulting in a "crisis of conscience for democracies".

The French President has long advocated the development of a more cohesive political community in Europe that would share democratic values and work together in the areas of security, transport and energy.

Additionally, Macron has insisted that Europe should pursue "strategic autonomy" from the NATO-led military alliance and become less dependent on it.
