NEW DELHI: In the lead-up to the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, Aam Aadmi Party's National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, alongside Chief Minister Atishi and senior party leaders Sanjay Singh and Manish Sisodia, unveiled the party’s election manifesto today, January 27.
The AAP has laid out 15 promises, including jobs and schemes for women and senior citizens, as part of their plan for Delhi if they return to power. The manifesto also highlights efforts to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which AAP leaders criticized during the announcement.
The key guarantees include several measures previously mentioned by Kejriwal in earlier statements. Some major promises are: job opportunities, a monthly Rs.2,100 cash scheme for women, the Sanjeevani Yojana for healthcare support for senior citizens, Rs.18,000 assistance for Hindu and Sikh priests, and the waiver of incorrect water bills.
AAP has been in power in Delhi since 2015, following their victories in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections. Before AAP’s rise, the Congress ruled Delhi from 1998 to 2013.
Kejriwal also pledged to address three unfulfilled promises from AAP’s earlier terms, which include 24-hour free water supply, cleaning the Yamuna River, and transforming Delhi’s roads to match European standards.
Other initiatives in the manifesto include the Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship for Dalit students to study abroad, free bus rides and a 50% discount on metro fares for students, free electricity and water for tenants, and improved sewer systems.
Kejriwal emphasized that these 15 guarantees add to the six key initiatives AAP has consistently provided in its previous terms, such as electricity subsidies, free water, free health services, free education, and pilgrimage support for senior citizens.
Highlights of AAP’s Promises:
Employment for Delhiites: Kejriwal expressed his commitment to reducing unemployment in Delhi, stating, “Delhi’s 2.5 crore people are like my family, and providing them with opportunities is my priority.”
Women Empowerment (Mahila Samman Yojana): AAP plans to offer Rs.2,100 per month to women, implementing the scheme immediately if elected.
Sanjeevani Yojana: Citizens aged 60 and above will receive access to quality healthcare in both government and private hospitals.
Water Bill Waivers: Addressing inflated water bills, Kejriwal promised to cancel incorrect charges and ensure fair billing practices.
Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship: Dalit students pursuing education abroad will have their expenses fully covered by the Delhi government.
Transportation Benefits: Free bus rides and a 50% discount on metro fares for students are part of AAP’s transportation policies.
Free Water and Electricity for Tenants: AAP pledged to extend utility benefits to tenants across Delhi.
Meanwhile, the BJP recently released its manifesto, which focused on free education for underprivileged children, financial support for women, and solutions to Delhi’s water issues.
