New Delhi: Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and a prominent member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has sought permission through a court application to spend five days with his ailing wife while in custody. This plea has been presented before the Rouse Avenue court, and it is scheduled to be heard by Special Judge M K Nagpal on the following day.
Sisodia is entangled in legal matters concerning both a case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and a money laundering case related to the Delhi Excise policy. Charge sheets have been filed against Sisodia and other co-accused in both instances. Despite the Supreme Court rejecting his bail plea, the High Court had previously granted him permission in June to visit his wife during his time in custody. However, earlier bail requests were turned down by both the High Court and the trial court.
The legal complexities surrounding the Delhi Excise policy have also led to the arrest of AAP Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh, who is presently in judicial custody. He is slated to appear before the relevant court on Friday for further proceedings. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleges that the actions of Manish Sisodia, one of the accused, have resulted in the generation of proceeds of crime amounting to approximately ₹622 crore.
Mr. Sisodia was first arrested by the ED on March 9, following an earlier arrest by the CBI on February 26. The legal developments highlight the gravity of the charges against him and the ongoing legal scrutiny in both cases.
