NEW DELHI: AAP leader Amanatullah Khan has asked for anticipatory bail from the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court after a new case was filed against him. The court will hear his request today. He claims the allegations against him are false and wants protection before he joins the investigation.

The case is about an incident in Jamia Nagar, where the police say Khan stopped them from arresting a murder suspect. They allege that his actions helped the accused escape.

Khan, who was recently re-elected from the Okhla constituency, strongly denies these claims. According to reports, he was accused of protecting Chavez Khan, who has been declared a fugitive by the court.

In an email to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, Amanatullah Khan said he is not hiding and is being framed in a false case. He explained that Chavez Khan was already out on bail and had shown his bail documents to the police. However, court records say that Chavez Khan is officially a fugitive.

The police also accused Khan and his supporters of attacking the police team when they tried to arrest Chavez Khan. They claim he helped the suspect escape from custody.

But Khan insists he is innocent. He says some officers in the Delhi Police are falsely blaming him to cover up their mistakes. He also said he was only trying to help a local resident who told him he was being threatened by men in plainclothes.

In his letter, Khan mentioned that the man had received anticipatory bail from the Saket court in 2018. Despite this, he said, the plainclothes officers tried to arrest him and were scaring people in the area.
