Kolkata: The post of Congress state president in West Bengal has been vacant for one month. The Congress is looking for such a leader for this post, who can lead the party in the 2021 assembly elections. A tussle has started in Bengal over the demand for a new state president. There has been a demand to make Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, the leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, once again the head of the state unit. Congress veteran Abdul Mannan has written a letter to Sonia Gandhi, requesting Adhir Ranjan to hand over the reins of the party in Bengal.

Somen Mitra, who was the President of Bengal Congress, died on 30 July. After this, the post of Congress President in Bengal is vacant. Before Somen Mitra, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary was the state president of Bengal Congress. Leader of Opposition in the Bengal Assembly Abdul Mannan has recommended that Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary should be made the state president. In this regard, Mannan has written to Sonia Gandhi and said that Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary should be appointed as the President of the Bengal Congress along with being the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha.

He said that the impatient Ranjan Chaudhary has full potential to lead the party to fight and defeat both BJP and Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal assembly elections. Mannan said that many leaders are involved in the race to become Congress president, but Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary will be the best option to strengthen the Left-Congress alliance and defeat the BJP and TMC.
