Dr Abdul Qadir Khan, a nuclear scientist considered to be the father of Pakistan's nuclear ceremony, passed away in Islamabad on Sunday morning at the age of 85. According to reports, Khan was admitted to KRL Hospital in Islamabad after his health deteriorated. According to the report received, he died around 7 am on Sunday.

The same Pakistan PM Imran Khan condoled his death and said, "Deeply saddened by the death of Dr Khan. We love them because of their significant contribution in making us nuclear weapons rich countries. He has given us protection against an aggressive and large nuclear neighbour. He was a national icon for the people of Pakistan.''

Doctors have reported a 'lung failure' due to his death. Pakistan Defence Minister Parvez Khattak also expressed grief over Khan's death. Khattak tweeted in Urdu, "Deeply saddened by the tragic demise of Dr Abdul Qadir Khan. Huge damage. Pakistan will always respect their services. The country is very indebted to them for their contribution to enhancing our defence capabilities.'' Dr Abdul Qadir Khan was born in Bhopal, India in 1936. However, khan had moved to Pakistan with his family after the partition. Dr Khan had his early education from DJ Science College, Karachi.
