Washington: Indian-origin professors Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in Sweden. All 3 economists have been selected for the Nobel Prize for their experimental approach to eradicating poverty from the world. Abhijeet Banerjee was born in 1961 in Mumbai. He holds a Ph.D. from Howard University. He is a professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Duflo, born in 1972, is the youngest and the second woman to have been awarded this prestigious award in the economic field. Michael Kremer is a professor at Howard University.

Abhijeet Banerjee in Mundu: On this special occasion, Abhijeet was seen wearing Mundu. It is a traditional outfit of South India that is worn like a dhoti. Esther Duflo wore a saree at the honor ceremony which is a special identity of the Indian woman. Esther Duflo is the wife of Abhijeet Banerjee and both were jointly selected for this award. Abhijeet is an alumnus of Jawaharlal University, Delhi. Abhijeet Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer have been selected for the 'Experimental Approach to Elevating Global Poverty'. The Nobel Committee said in its statement that this research will help in tackling global poverty. Earlier, Amartya Sen of Indian origin was given the Nobel Prize for Economics. In 1998, Sen received the Nobel Prize for Economics.

Will donate prize money: 3 economists have announced to donate the money received in Nobel Prize on Economic Research. The prize money will be given to the 'Vis Fund for Research in Development Economics'. Howard University runs this institute. Esther Duflo said, "In childhood, I had read about Marie Curie, how she had spent the Nobel Prize money on buying radium so that research could continue. Therefore, we should also support the next generation."
