COLOMBIA: Abhishek Verma won the top reward in the men's compound individual final at the World Cup Stage 3 in Medellin-colombo, adding another gold medal to India's collection. James Lutz of the USA was upset on Saturday by 33-year-old Abhishek, who won a compound team gold medal and an individual silver at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.

Abhishek, a repeat World Cup gold medalist who missed the previous two World Cup stages, shocked Mike Schloesser of the Netherlands, the top seed and current world No. 1, 148-148 (10*-10) in a thrilling shootoff to advance to the solo semifinal. After defeating Brazilian Luccas Abreu in the round of 16, eighth-seeded Verma advanced to the championship match.

Abhishek has now won three individual World Cup gold medals, his first since the Paris phase of the 2021 tournament. In Wroclaw, Poland, in 2015, he had earned his first individual World Cup gold medal. In the World Cup's individual competition, he has won two silver medals and three bronze ones. 

As the recurve mixed team competes for the bronze later on Sunday, the Indian contingent, which has already won one gold and three bronze medals, has a chance to add to their total.The squad advanced to the semifinals by defeating France and the Netherlands 6-0, but fell to Korea 5-3. They will now compete against Chinese Taipei for the bronze medal.
