Accident at deep well construction site in West Jaintia Hills, 5 died

Shillong: Five workers have reported dead after inhaling toxic fumes from the pump used to draw water. The ones who lost their lives were working at a deep well construction site in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. The police said that around seven people were working at the construction site where 5 died, 2 rescued. 

Superintendent of Police Bikram D Marak talking to a famous news agency said that the incident took place at Mihmyntdu village in the district. West Jaintia Hills SP said, “Two other workers were rescued, and they were rushed to hospital." Talking about the case the workers were engaged in the construction of a 35-meter-deep well. The people reportedly working at site fell unconscious inside the deep well due to the fumes emitting from a pump.

A special rescue team of police and fire services department was rushed to the spot. According to officials, the bodies of the five deceased persons from the site and rescued two others.
