Chandigarh: At least 11 people, including four children, drowned during Ganesh's immersion in different districts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on Friday (September 9). At the same time, many people have been rescued and rescued, who are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Four youths drowned in a canal in Haryana's Mahendragarh district. In Sonipat district too, two youths were washed away in the Yamuna river during Ganesh immersion. On the other hand, 7 people have also died due to drowning in Unnao and Sant Kabir Nagar of Uttar Pradesh.
Regarding the Mahendragarh incident, Civil Surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar told the media that four people were brought dead to the hospital. According to the information, a Ganesh idol of about seven feet in Mahendragarh was being taken for immersion. Meanwhile, 9 youths were washed away in the strong current of water. The district administration took the help of NDRF and a rescue operation was carried out. During the rescue operation, the bodies of four youths were retrieved while the others were rescued. All the rescued have been admitted to the hospital.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted, "The news of the untimely death of many people due to drowning during Ganpati immersion in Mahendragarh and Sonipat districts is heartbreaking. We all stand with the families of the deceased in this difficult time. NDRF team has saved many people from drowning, I wish them a speedy recovery.''
