Despite posting a staggering total of 358 runs on the board  India suffered 4-wicket loss in the 4th ODI against Australia. Australia pulled off a record chase of 359 runs to win the game with 13 balls to spare and level the five-match series 2-2. Post-defeat, opener Shikhar Dhawan highlighted the failure in reading the conditions well before the game as one of the main reason behind India's, Virat Kohli's men had to taste defeat at the PCA Stadium in Mohali after a stellar batting effort from the visitors.

After defeat in 4th ODI, Virat Kohli criticises DRS, says 'It's just not consistent at all'

Dhawan registered his career-best ODI score of 143 runs, admitted that the Indian team were not expecting dew in Mohali but it didn't turn out as expected. In the 3rd ODI in Ranchi, Indian captain Virat Kohli had admitted that he expected dew to come into play in the second innings but that didn't happen and India's decision to chase seemed to backfire.

Dhawan said, "We had expected dew would be a factor in the last game and it didn't come and here, we didn't expect dew in this game and it came very heavily.

Dhawan said that the Indian team's decision to bat first was based on the dew factor as they were expecting the second half of the innings to be difficult due to lack of moisture. However, Australian batsmen found it easy to take on the Indian bowlers as dew made it difficult to grip the ball. He said,  "So of course, when you put such totals on the board, it's always pressure for the other sides and not our bowlers and we were quite in control till 38th over. But then ball started coming so nicely and the (bounce) true that you could play any shot on that surface.”

Dhawan said that because of the dew, the ball was not gripping and of course Ashton Turner who  played really a good knock and took the game away. But he couldn't have played those shots had there been no dew.
